The first 2 years of Dr. Eldridge-Pederson’s life were spent in a house where all the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in Klamath Falls, Oregon were held. Her parents had chosen to dedicate 2 years to this life-saving program. Her mother and father’s involvement in 12 step programs shaped a significant part of her understanding of the world. After graduating from a liberal arts college, her first jobs were working at residential treatment centers for children and adolescents and then running a Head Start program. After earning a master’s degree in counseling psychology, she began coordinating a volunteer and internship program as well as teaching at the undergraduate level. Upon returning to Oregon in 1983, she became a family counselor and quickly recognized that the vast majority of her clients were drug impacted. That summer she attended the 3rd annual Alcohol 101 Summer Institute which firmly launched her on the focus of her life’s work.
